Arsenal submit £70m bid to sign Nicolas Pepe from Lille

Arsenal has submitted an €80 million (£70m) offer to Lille for Nicolas Pepe, according to reports in France. Unai Emery is in the market for a new attacker who primarily plays on the flanks and the club have already failed with a £40m offer for Wilfried Zaha, who Crystal Palace value at £80m.

Pepe also fits the profile Arsenal is looking for but the 24-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs following his impressive performances on Lille’s right-wing last season.

The Ivory Coast international scored 22 goals in Ligue 1 and registered 11 assists, but he lost out to Kylian Mbappe for the division’s Player of the Year award. According to Telefoot, Arsenal has now submitted an €80m (£70m) proposal to Lille and the offer is being considered by the French club’s hierarchy.

The report also claims that Pepe has not yet made a decision over his future but would prioritize a move to Paris Saint-Germain if it became available.

PSG has not yet made an offer but may make a move if Neymar is sold back to Barcelona. Pepe is now on his holidays after Ivory Coast were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations by Algeria on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, Arsenal remains in the running to sign William Saliba but their move could be derailed after Tottenham submitted a higher offer for the Saint-Etienne centre-back earlier this week.

Emery and his players are currently in the United States for the start of their pre-season tour and will begin their campaign with a match against Colorado Rapids on Tuesday.
